Do Pore Strips Really Get Rid of Blackheads?

Hello, beauties! Today’s post is all about the burning question, Do Pore Strips Really Get Rid of Black Heads? Blackheads are a problem that plagues several us of women and men. As a California licensed esthetician, I want to tell you all today about what blackheads are, what causes blackheads, how to prevent blackheads, and how to get rid of them!

Do Pore Strips Really Get Rid of Black Heads?

As a professional Esthetician, I’ve got to say, when asked… Do Pore Strips Really Get Rid of Black Heads? The answer is NO. Blackheads are DEEP in your pores! And pore strips will only take off a superficial amount of the gunk in your pores.

The only way to take out all the gunk clogging your pores is to get a facial. A professional will properly prepare your skin and extract all of the blackheads without damaging your skin. Please, don’t try to squeeze our blackheads at home. You can damage your skin. Or worse! Push the gunk deeper into the pore.

But don’t worry, in between facials, there’s plenty of ways for you to prevent blackheads!

What are blackheads?
Blackheads are referred to by us estheticians as open comedones. In other words, a blackhead is a pore clogged with oils, dirt, and dead skin cells. Blackheads and whiteheads are makeup of the same gunk. However, whiteheads have not been exposed to air (they are closed comedones, trapped under the skin so to speak). Blackheads have been exposed to air, and the oxidation caused them to darken.

Like I said, most of us suffer from blackheads on our nose area. Not taking off our makeup before we go to sleep, using products that are comedogenic (pore-clogging), bad diet, touching our face too much, and so on all contribute to pesky blackheads.

How to prevent blackheads

  • You can prevent blackheads by the following:
  • Always wash your face before bed
  • Avoid touching your face (the natural oils on your hands can clog your pores)
  • Change your pillowcases often
  • Exfoliate twice a week, and focus on where you have blackheads
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Use a mask twice a week, focusing where you have blackheads, to draw out the impurities from your pores.

Where’s your favorite place to get a facial? Have you ever gotten one before? And how do you usually deal with blackheads? I’d love to read all about it in the comments. As always thanks for reading. Until next time.
