Face mask from Clay and Spirulina

I made a new face mask from clay and spirulina, a recipe inspired from internet, but modified and adapted in function of availabilities. It combines the deep cleansing and purifying effect of white clay and the nourishing and moisturizing effect of spirulina. If you have not heard of spirulina yet, then find out that it is a blue-green algae used like a cosmetic ingredient and food supplement, containing a huge quantity of protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Usually, we use it in its dried form for different DIY homemade recipes. Spirulina is definitely a superfood for your skin!

Clay is one of the most wonderful ingredients which nature could give us. It is used for cleansing, detoxification, body regeneration, etc. Not suddenly the women from the Middle East use it in various beauty products: in creams, soaps, scrubs, they even use it in their drink and food for internal detoxification.

So, for my homemade face mask I used:

  • 8 spoons of white clay (proper for sensitive, irritated skin)
  • 2 spoons of spirulina (anti-aging, repairing effect)
  • 2 teaspoons of flaxseed powder and calendula petals
  • 1,5 gr of allantoin (healing, protective, gently exfoliating effect).

Just mix all the ingredients and your face mask is ready! Take into consideration one thing while preparing the clay masks: do not use metal bowl and/or spoon. Use instead wooden or ceramic tools, because metal reacts with the minerals from the clay. For usage, add a little bit of liquid, about 1-2 teaspoons, and the product is ready to use. First of all, you should take into account that the mask should be applied on clean face. Apply it, leave it to act for about 10 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. The powder of flaxseed and calendula petals has exfoliating effect, so that while removing it, it will be slightly abrasive.

Try to use weekly a face mask and, for not thinking too much about what you could use, prepare the basis of your mask in advance. So, every time you will want to apply a face mask, you will just have to add the liquid, which could be water, tea, milk, or anything else that you have at hand, or which is suitable for your skin.

Avoid applying the face mask on delicate eye area, as the skin around the eyes is the thinnest and the most sensitive. While dealing with clay masks, do not let it completely dry and become crumbly. Put on a very thick layer of mask. When it’s time to take off the face mask, you will feel a slightly tightening effect on your skin, but the mask should still look wet on top. Be sure to wash off thoroughly the mask, and also, do not use cosmetic products immediately after removing the product.

Never use again the clay you have used before, as it absorbed all your toxins.
