Get rid of closed pimples / comedones

I decided to talk about this subject since it is something I’ve also confronted with in the past few weeks. I’ve always thought I have dry sensitive skin, but lately, it has also been extremely irritated and itchy.

In the same time, it developed something that looked like pimples, but they weren’t. I’ve discovered that the actual problem was that my skin got really dehydrated, and all those red bumps were actually closed pimples/comedones (pimples that don’t develop any liquid inside) that took forever to heal. Yet, here I am, writing this article about getting rid of them.

The first thing I did and that I recommend you also do is to stop using harsh cleansers (for acne or anything that has alcohol in it) and any skincare products that contain fragrance. These are extremely irritant for your skin and, no matter how emollient they promise to be, they’re the main reason you get the closed pimples. Ok, now that you got rid of the problem source, let’s see what’s to be done in order to improve your skin, heal the already created pimples and remain scar-free.

The best thing to do is to hydrate and use products that will keep that water inside your skin. There are many ingredients that help with this, but you need to pick the ones that will suit your skin:

Glycerin: very common humectant and very popular in most cosmetic products. You can just pick something with a higher amount of glycerin, but you must be careful with it, especially if you have acne prone skin or oily skin because it can make you break out.

Hyaluronic Acid – a great ingredient that can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. It is also an amazing anti-aging ingredient that helps smooth fine lines so you get 2 in one. You can either pick products that have hyaluronic acid in them or get a booster (Paula’s Choice has one). Add it either directly on your damp skin, or mix it with your regular moisturizer.

Vaseline – yes, this is one of the best things that can help cure the skin barrier that is broken for dehydrated skin. Unfortunately, just as glycerin, it can break you out, so so a small test before deciding to spread it all over your face.

So, basically: get rid of stripping cleansers, products with fragrance and use humectant products. I used hyaluronic acid and I started seeing results in like 3 days. It took 1 week and a half for all closed pimples to heal, but I haven’t had any problem since then, therefore I highly recommend it.
